Idle Farm — Grow, Harvest, Expand
Plant a crop, wait for it to ripen, tap to harvest. Unlock seven crops from humble wheat to golden sunflowers, grow your field from 4 plots to 16, and hire farmhands who keep harvesting while you're away.
Tap an empty plot to plant the selected seed; tap a glowing plot to harvest (it replants itself). Plots with a 🧑🌾 badge farm themselves — even while you're away, up to 4 hours. Your farm saves automatically.
What is Idle Farm?
Idle Farm is a free farming game that grows from a hands-on harvesting game into a farm that runs itself. You start with four bare plots of soil and a bag of wheat seed. Plant, wait a few seconds, and tap the ripe wheat to sell it — then reinvest the coins. Every crop you unlock grows more slowly but sells for more, every plot you buy is another crop in the ground, and every farmhand you hire takes a plot off your hands entirely, harvesting and replanting it the instant it ripens. A few hours later, the field that once needed a tap every five seconds is sixteen plots of strawberries and sunflowers being worked by a full crew, and coins arrive whether you are watching or not.
What makes it different from a pure clicker is that your farm is a real field, not a number. Each plot has its own crop and its own growth timer, so you can see your decisions laid out in soil: the corner of slow, valuable pumpkins your farmhands manage, the row of quick carrots you harvest by hand while you wait for the next unlock. Choosing what to grow where — and when to switch — is the game. The economy is tuned so an attentive player unlocks every crop in a few hours of play, and a player who checks in every so often gets there too, just more slowly. There is no energy meter, no premium currency, and nothing to buy with real money; your farm only ever grows from what it harvests.

Idle Farm Tips & Strategy
The farm rewards planning more than tapping. These four ideas will get you to a fully automated field noticeably faster.
Hire your first farmhand early
The first farmhand costs just 40 coins, and it is the most important purchase in the game: it turns one plot into income that keeps coming while you read, scroll or close the tab. Early on it is tempting to pour everything into the next crop, but a farmhand compounds — every minute you play without one is a minute of idle income lost. Grab one as soon as you can, then keep the number of farmhands close to your number of plots.
Fast crops by hand, slow crops for the crew
Per second, later crops always earn more — but only if they are harvested on time. On plots you farm yourself, a quick crop you tap every few seconds can out-earn a pumpkin you forget about for ten minutes. On automated plots that problem disappears, because a farmhand never forgets. So give your crew the best, slowest crop you have unlocked, and keep the quick ones on the manual plots you are actively tending.
Fertilizer and market multiply everything
A new plot adds one more crop; fertilizer and the market stall boost every crop at once. Each fertilizer level makes all crops grow 12% faster, and each market level makes everything sell for 20% more. Once you have eight or more plots, these upgrades are almost always better value than another plot — compare the price tag to what you earn per minute and buy whichever pays itself back fastest.
Replant when you unlock a crop
Unlocking a crop selects it in the seed bar, but plots already in the ground keep growing whatever they had. Use "Replant all with selected crop" right after an unlock so your farmhands switch to the better crop immediately. Plots lose their current growth when replanted, so the best moment is just after a round of harvests, while most of the field is freshly planted anyway.
How Growth, Farmhands and Offline Earnings Work
Every plot runs its own growth clock. A crop's grow time is its base time shrunk by 12% for each fertilizer level — eight levels bring a five-minute sunflower down to under two minutes — and its sell price is its base value raised 20% per market level, up to ten levels. Plots without a farmhand stop at ripe and wait patiently; nothing ever rots or withers, so you can never lose a crop by being away. Plots with a farmhand loop forever: ripen, sell, replant, repeat. The Idle / sec number in the scoreboard is exactly the income from those automated plots, so you can see at a glance what the farm earns when you are not there.
When you return to the tab, or reopen the page later, the game works out how long you were gone and pays every automated plot for each harvest it would have made, capped at four hours so the best strategy is still to play rather than to leave for a week. Background tabs are handled the same way: browsers slow down or freeze timers in hidden tabs, so instead of trickling in a few coins per minute while hidden, the farm settles the whole absence in one go the moment you look again. Leaving the tab open in the background and closing it entirely pay exactly the same — a small detail, but it means your farmhands are never cheated out of their work.
Idle Farm vs Other Idle Games
vygam's other idle games each have their own engine. Bakery Tycoon and Idle Clicker are classic production idlers: you buy buildings that add a steady per-second rate. Mining Idle layers in depth and prestige; Space Colony adds a survival constraint. Idle Farm is the spatial one. Instead of a single rate, your income is a field of individual timers, and the interesting decisions are about placement and timing — which crop on which plot, when to switch, when to replant — rather than which counter to bump next.
That makes it the most relaxed of the set to play in short bursts. You can tend the manual plots like a tiny garden for a few minutes, buy an upgrade, hand another plot to the crew, and leave; the field will be busy when you return. And because every plot is visible, progress is something you can actually see — the slow spread of pumpkins and sunflowers across what began as four squares of bare dirt. If you enjoy watching a system you built quietly work, this is the idle game for you.
FAQ
Is Idle Farm free to play?
Yes — Idle Farm on vygam is completely free. There is no download, no sign-up and nothing to buy with real money; every crop, plot and upgrade is earned with the coins your farm makes.
How do you play Idle Farm?
Pick a crop in the seed bar, then tap an empty plot to plant it. Each crop takes a set time to grow; when a plot glows ripe, tap it to harvest for coins and it replants itself with your selected crop. Spend coins on new crops, more plots, farmhands, fertilizer and market stalls to grow faster and sell for more.
What do farmhands do?
Each farmhand takes over one plot — the first plots in your field, in order — and harvests and replants it automatically the moment it ripens. Automated plots show a farmhand badge. They keep working while the tab is in the background and while you are away, so farmhands are what turn the farm from a clicking game into an idle one.
Does my farm earn money while I'm away?
Yes, through your farmhands. When you come back, every automated plot is paid for all the harvests it would have made while you were gone, up to a cap of four hours. Plots without a farmhand simply ripen and wait for you — they never rot, but they do not earn until you tap them.
Which crop is the best?
Later crops earn more per second: wheat makes 0.4 coins a second per plot, sunflowers about 1.07. But slow crops need fewer taps, so on manual plots a fast crop you harvest constantly can out-earn a slow one you forget about. On automated plots, always grow the best crop you have unlocked.
Is my farm saved?
Yes — your farm saves automatically to your browser's local storage every few seconds and whenever you leave the page. It survives reloads on the same device and browser; clearing site data, or the Reset farm button, starts a new farm.
