The Mathematics of Dice

One die is flat: every face has the same chance, and a d20 is exactly as likely to land on 20 as on 1. The moment a second die joins, the totals stop being flat, because middle sums can be made more ways than extreme ones. Two d6 make 7 six different ways but 12 only one way, so 7 is six times as likely. Add more dice and the histogram of totals climbs toward the familiar bell shape — with five d6, totals near 17 and 18 dominate while 5 and 30 are one-in-7,776 events.

The probability line under each roll is computed by convolution — combining the distribution of each added die one at a time until the tool holds the exact count of ways to reach every possible total.
